Regina based country roots rocker JJ Voss, COVID aside, has had a pretty good 2020. Starting with the release of his third outing Come Along With Me in March, Voss has been able to receive critical acclaim by way of several award nominations, positive reviews in our publication (and several others across the province) as well as the heavily circulated Toronto based Exclaim!. On top this Voss was able to parlay a second place finish in the SaskMusic online poll for The Best Saskatchewan Albums of 2020. All in all, not too shabby.
Tours and small venue performances have been able to continue, with restrictions, for Voss as well. Voss is a very personable "salt of the earth" kind of guy. His ability to draw audiences in with his songs and stories whilst at the same time preaching a positive message of peace, love and hope are to be admired.
“I didn’t want to come up with something scathing and negative. There’s enough of that going on in the world right now. I didn’t want to just join the argument and add another dissenting voice. If I was going to come forward and use my voice for something I wanted it to be to try to add something positive to the conversation,” said Voss in an interview with NSMZ for our October issue.
Congrats to our Artist of the Year, JJ Voss! Well deserved and we look forward to whatever you will come up with in the future. Have an amazing 2021.
