Our grade: A
Jordan Perry’s “Sleep Forever,” the lead single from his upcoming album Jeux d’hiver, is a polished, atmospheric entry into a sonic world that feels both nostalgic and immediate. Rooted in retro electro-pop, the track carries a distinctly old-school energy that recalls the sleek, pulsing textures of Daft Punk, particularly the mood-driven soundscapes of the Tron Legacy soundtrack. There’s also additional cinematic quality to it that brings to mind the eerie, neon-tinged tones of Stranger Things or the stylized ‘80s revival heard throughout Cobra Kai.
The production is clean, confident, and immersive. Perry’s experience as a producer and drummer shows in the careful layering of synths, rhythm, and space. His vocals land in a slightly aloof, detached place, but it suits the style well, reinforcing the track’s emotional distance and introspective tone. The addition of CELIN provides a compelling contrast. Her voice has a warm, distinctive timbre (especially her cool vibrato) that softens the edges of the song, offering a sense of calm that balances the mild unease in Perry’s delivery. Together, their voices create a dynamic push and pull that feels central to the track’s emotional core.
A standout moment comes in the form of Graham Tilsley’s guitar solo, which adds a welcome burst of texture and movement without breaking the song’s immersive mood. The arrangement itself is thoughtfully paced, thinning out toward the end before building back up again, creating a sense of momentum that keeps the listener engaged.
Most importantly, “Sleep Forever” is undeniably danceable. Beneath its moody atmosphere is a steady pulse that makes it easy to get lost in. It’s a strong introduction to Jeux d’hiver and a promising glimpse into Perry’s winter-inspired sonic landscape.
